1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background in the local area.

I grew up in Oklahoma, and consider myself a country boy at heart. My wife and I moved around a bit, to Southern California and then over to the St. Louis area. We eventually moved to the Prescott area twenty years ago after falling in love with the scenery and lifestyle.

We are active in the local community, and currently I am helping to raise funds for the Yavapai Territorial Gospel Rescue Mission for homeless women and children. Two of us on our team started November completely shaven, and are not shaving for the entire month. We are taking pledges through our networks and social media, and while we have a goal of each raising $300 this month, so far we have raised over $2,200. This generosity speaks to the power of social media to make and promote positive connections.

2. What brought you to Keller Williams Arizona Realty in Prescott?

What actually brought me to Keller Williams Arizona Realty in Prescott was a job loss about two years ago. I had known Travis Bard for over 15 years, and we were having coffee on the day I was re-entering the job market. I asked Travis to tell me all about the real estate market. A few days after that conversation, Travis called me and told me he had talked it over with his wife and they agreed that I would be an excellent addition to their team. I enrolled in real estate school, taking all my courses online. I joined the team after I received my license, and I am glad our team is with KWAZ in Prescott since it offers so many opportunities to meet others, learn about real estate, and build relationships.

3. What do you like most about working with the KWAZ in Prescott team?

As I noted, I started my career in the middle of COVID, and all my classes were online. I only recently had a CE class that was in person. But my preference is to work at a place of business, and this is where the KWAZ in Prescott business center shines! The people are great, and I can spend time getting to know others throughout the market center and business center offices, and members of my team as well.

This is extremely valuable to me, as I prefer to conduct business in person and not work from home. I can build bridges and learn from people who may not be on my team, but may offer an opportunity for us to help each other in the future. Real estate is a people-based business, and that is my passion. If I can help someone, even if it’s for something that is not related to a sale–this is what makes me happy. When people meet David Coyne, I want them to know my passion for helping them.

4. Do you have a favorite client story you would like to share where you believe you helped them the most?

Beth was a walk-in client to the market center who also happened to be a $1 million client. I met Beth very early in my career. She had lost her husband, and was moving herself and two daughters from Southern California to the area. She needed to find just the right home for all of them, and one of her daughters has functional needs. Our friendship grew and we are still friends to this day.

I recently saw Beth around town (Prescott still retains that charming small-town atmosphere) and she told me she is praying for my business. This is the type of wonderful person she is. When we were going through the sales contract, I mentioned that I was sure this was something her husband would have done for her, and she agreed. I was glad to be helpful in this way, and to have made such a terrific friend.

5. What is the secret to your success?

There are two parts of my secret to success: diligence and relationships.

Diligence as in continuing to make calls and doing the work to make connections. During my first five months I had six deals. Not enough to reach the cap, and there were days I went home discouraged. But I kept at it! I also had a lot of conversations with Travis, and he was always encouraging and supporting.

Relationships are where I thrive. I just take care of people, and I know it will work out from there. Even if I have to turn a client to some other place better suited for their needs, I know I am doing the right thing for them. To be honest with myself and others and helping clients will always bring the best results.

6. If you could give one piece of helpful advice to a new real estate agent, what would that be?

Have great help and support in your career. Our team is part of a larger group, and they are clear on what we should be doing. It is very helpful to have a group to share our goals and progress, and to encourage each other to continue making calls and doing the work we need to grow the business.

7. Where will we meet David Coyne in the future?

2021 was a remarkable year for me, and I tripled the highest income I had ever earned before. This is creating the opportunity for us to reach financial freedom. For 2022, I have set a higher goal, as I believe the market is still performing well and I am focusing on the same successful formula. I am planning conscientiously, and dreaming big!
